Beware of Scams
Unfortunately, there are always people who try to make a living scamming honest people out of money. The Internet has given these unscrupulous sorts a massive new landscape where they can operate. The relative low cost of maintaining a website and sending out mass emails means that people looking to make money underhandedly can send out massive numbers of traps increasing their odds that someone will step into one.
Don't get caught in a freelance home writer's network scam. There was a very large scam that invited users to join a group called Freelance Writers Network which promised access to email lists and job lists that could further your career. The initial cost to join was a nominal fee, but credit cards would then be charged $49.95 every month. This group was not a legitimate organization, and many writers lost money.
The thing to remember is to always research all groups well before joining them, especially those groups that cost money. Read the fine print, and look around on the Internet before you hand you credit card out to anyone.
