The Internet is one of the best places for your copyright law education. There are many sources sponsored by the US government and non-profit organizations that are very reliable. However, there are just as many, if not more, resources that are opinionated and contain misinformation.

The respected lawyers of Franklin Pierce University constructed this informational web page. It contains some great information that touches on the vague aspects of copyright law and how to interpret them.
The law school of the University of Virginia Montecino produced this article. It's pretty straightforward and is a good guide of what to do and what not to do. However, it does focus on the creation of web sites and not articles or documents.
Of course, if you do feel like diving into copyright facts and reading the bare bones of the law, you can always visit the US Copyright Office's website. It may be difficult to interpret, but it is hands down the best place for the most accurate and up to date information on copyright law.

If you'd really like to have a firm grasp on copyright law then considering taking a class at your local community college.
